I voted from down here in Florida…surely all you Yoopers that are still hanging around Iron Mountain can take a minute to vote::))
I voted for “serendipity” ONLY because ‘tenacity’ or ‘tenacious’ were not among the choices!
a little positive intention carries carries a heavy weight ……..
I voted for evolve because we really need to….also endeavour wasn’t there.
My word is Greatful.
I am Greatful for all that iron mountain, has blessed me with and who I am…..
I’m a Michigander living in Chicago, Mackinaw City is my home town. I voted for “Peace”, its appropriate for whats going on in the World today!
Was torn between COMMUNITY or PRIDE…working at the schools you see a lot of Hometown PRIDE in all districts, but COMMUNITY really is the vision we should all be striving to achieve. Good words: tough decision.
I voted for Home because there is truly no place better than Home.
I voted for “tutti” because of the link to Iron Mountain’s Italian immigrants, such as my grandfather and his brothers, who built so many wonderful brick and sandstone buildings. “TOGETHER” they toiled to make this place their new home.
i voted for responsibility…it reminds me that we are all responsible for some thing or someone in some way .whether it be our children ,our community, our church or our children if we all accept the responsibility of making some small movement our community will remain a strong and great place to live,be and raise our families…
I must be in the minority here. Most of the submissions are good words but frankly they are ol, tired, overused, unimaginative, generic clichés. I am a writer so I may be too harsh in my opinion but I see language as a fine art form as valuable as other fine arts. I hope the vote is heaviest on a submission as unique and fresh as our little town.
In response to Jane’s comment, I would like to ask Jane a question: Did you put any creative words on that list? And if you did, please share which ones they were. It’s so easy to criticize when you don’t offer suggestions; as a writer, you should lead rather than degrade. All of these words mean something personal to someone whether you think they are cliche’ or not. People took the time to offer their thoughts, time, and opinions through their choices of these words because they are words that inspired them in one way or another, and that is beautiful in itself! I am just happy that people care enough about our community to participate, and you have no right to sit there and judge and insult people. Shame on you. If you didn’t like the words, you should have come up with some of your own, and if you did, I would like to see them because quite frankly, “unique” and “fresh” aren’t exactly specific, explanatory, or image conjuring. And on top of that, Jane, this project is supposed to bring out a total picture of our community, the strengths, the traits, the customs, etc., and bring us together, not separate us as your negative comment does. Any words that win are going to offer an amazingly aesthetic portrait because Mia can make the simplest word come to life and express our community in a cultural, familial, and beautiful presentation, so please don’t bring your negativeness to a project that is designed to praise and honor all our opinions, styles, and differences and celebrate what in essence makes our community what it is. Using these words, Mia and her team will take a mundane spot in town and spectacularly transform it into an attention-arresting and dazzling depiction of all of us and what WE stand for.
I am so excited for this Power of Words Project and thank everyone who voted for this wonderful opportunity for the Iron Mountain community!
We are thrilled!
Cannot wait for the mural painting to begin!
GTP…I am truly sorry you found my comments so disagreeable, surely that was not my intention. I DID submit the Italian word “Tutti” (All together). My ‘criticism’ was geared to cultivate a greater interest and participation in this worthy endeavor and NOT to insult and I regret the misunderstanding. Peace…..
